LaSallecouncil will consider investing an initial $164,000 for the town's first transit operationexpected to roll out in September.

The money will pay for bus shelters along the proposed transit route that will connect the community to Windsor's more robust system.

An estimated $140,000 will pay for construction of stop pads, while the additional $24,000 will pay for the shelters, according to a report from staff going to town council Tuesday.

LaSalle has already partnered with Transit Windsor to buytwo buses that will travel from St. Clair College through the town's main business district, to the Vollmer Centre and Front Road, eventually connecting to Windsor's system.

The entire route will take about 45 minutes. The service will start at the beginning of September, just in time to provide students with a new transportation option.

To help introduce the service to the community, the town will let people ride for free for the first four months.
