Michael Pearce starts new role as LaSalle police chief July 29

The LaSalle Police Services Board chose Michael Pearce as the new LaSalle police chief. The appointment comes after the current chief, Duncan Davies, announced his retirement earlier this year. No date has been scheduled for the Change of Command Ceremony.

MayorCrystal Meloche announced that MichaelPearce will become LaSalle's new police chiefon July 29 followingChief Duncan Davies' retirement.

Melochemade the announcement on Fridayon behalf of the LaSalle Police Services Board. She says Pearce's appointment comes after a nationwide search toreplace the outgoing police chief.

The mayor said Pearce's "vision for enhancingpublic safety,strengthening community relations, and implementing innovative strategiesto address the evolving challenges facing law enforcement," impressed the selection committee and played a role in their decision.

Pearcewill beleaving his current post as Chatham-Kent's inspector in charge of the Community Patrol Branch. A communications representative for the Chatham-Kent police says Pearce's departure is a tremendous loss for the organization but that its members extend their "warmest congratulations and best wishes," to Pearce.

Pearce brings more than two decades of policing experience to his role in LaSalle. Healso previously served inthe York Regional Police.He's also worked in patrol, a community-oriented response unit, drugs and vice, media relations, professional standards, training and career development and recruiting.

Pearce said he's "thrilled" to work with the town's teams of professionals and feels "profound appreciation and humility" ahead of starting his new position.

"Together, we will advance member development and wellness, community inclusion, and technological innovation."

He also thanked theLaSalle Police Services Board for placing their trust in him.

Meloche says she's confident in Pearce's ability to excel in the role and says shelooks forward to working closely with him "to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents of the Town of LaSalle."

A Change of Command Ceremony for current chief, Davies, will be held later this year but the details haven't been released.
