OPP arrest Windsor man after multiple vehicle thefts, collisions

OPP arrested a 38-year-old Windsor man after he allegedly stole at least two vehicles and struck a police cruiser.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested a Windsor man Thursday following a series of vehicle thefts and collisions.

According to OPP, the 38-year-old man allegedly stole at least two vehicles and later struck a police cruiser before fleeing on foot.

The man has been charged with:

  • Three counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
  • Robbery.
  • Flight from police.
  • Uttering threats to cause death of bodily harm.

Timeline of events

Members of the OPP were dispatched to a motor vehicle collision on Essex County Road Thursday, around 8:20 a.m.

Officers were told that one of the vehicles involved in the collision was stolen and "believed involved in other criminal incidents earlier that morning.

According to OPP, the officers who arrived at the scene were told that one of the drivers involved in the collision fled in a separate vehicle stolen from a man who had stopped to offer aid.

The second allegedly stolen vehicle was later spotted entering onto eastbound Highway 401 at Manning Road at approximately 9:15 a.m.

OPP said that the vehicle was travelling on "three tires and one rim."

Police followed the vehicle until the suspect left the highway. The vehicle stopped on County Road 46 in Lakeshore.

OPP added that the driver of the stolen vehicle"intentionally struck a police cruiser before exiting and fleeing on foot."

Officers pursued the suspect, arresting him and taking him into custody.

According to OPP, there were no reported injuries.
