Peche Island tours resume this week

City of Windsor-run boat tours to Peche Island will resume on July 3, 2019.

The announcement comes approximately three weeks after mayor Drew Dilkens told Windsor City Council that boat tours were on hold due to high water levels in the region.

Tours will operate on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays, and will continue until approximately October 9, according to a Friday media release.

The first shuttle will depart Lakeview Park Marina at 10 a.m., and will continue hourly until the 2 p.m.

Visitors will be able to return from the island every half hour until 3:30 p.m.

Each shuttle can carry a maximum of six passengers, and no more than 12 passengers will be booked for each hourly departure.

Peche Island is an 86-acre island located on the Detroit River between Windsor and Detroit.

It was purchased by Hiram Walker in 1883, who used it as a summer place. Peche Island was sold in 1907, and was purchased by the City of Windsor in 1999,
