Windsor and Essex County hospitals will be receiving nearly $1.9 million in provincial funding to help pay for repairs and upgrades.

The funding is part of the province's $175-million hospital infrastructure renewal fund, which will be doled out to 131 facilities to upgrade or replace things like roofs, windows, heating and air conditioning systems.

Any investment in hospital upgrades is welcome news to aging hospitals, explained Ralph Ganter, CEO of the Erie St. Clair Local Health Integration Network.

"Given the continued capacity pressure facing hospitals as a result of a growing and aging population, ongoing investment in equipment upgrades and building repairs is needed to extend the life of all hospital facilities," he said in a news release.

Htel-Dieu Grace Healthcare will receive the largest allotment of the three hospitals in the Windsor region with $755,937.

Windsor Regional Hospital will receive $714,137, while Erie Shores Healthcare in Leamington will receive $428,819.

Two hospitals in the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance will receive more than $2.5 million. Sydenham District Hospital will receive $1.88 million, while Public General Hospital Society of Chatham gets $643,722.
