Gas prices are trending down in Windsor, but some residents say they're still too high

Lower than normal gas prices currently being seen by drivers in Windsor are set to fall even lower later this year, according to the head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.

GasBuddy analyst says prices could be 10 to 25 cents per litre lower by Christmas

Lower than normal gas prices in the Windsor areaare set to fall even lower later this year setting the stage for the region to see the lowest gas prices it's had since 2021, according to the head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.

Patrick De Haan said the average price for gasoline in Windsor has fallen almost six cents a litre in just the last week, with prices now averaging just $1.45 a litre, down almost 21 cents from a year ago.

He said there are a variety of reasons for the lower prices.

"A lot of it is seasonal in nature. We are seeing gasoline demand that has really started to decline as we've seen the end of summer driving season," De Haan told CBC News.

"It's that decrease in demand, coupled with the fact that next week we will be switching back to a cheaper winter blend of gasoline that typically is why gas prices go down every fall.

"But we've gotten the added benefit in the last few weeks, oil prices have fallen precipitously ... so it's really all of the above," he added.

But while prices may be lower at the pump, three Windsorites told CBC Wednesday they're still feeling the pinch.

Jessica Chambers says shethinks prices are "insane."

Even with the lower prices now, she says "they are still a lot for a struggling student," adding that her ideal price would be less that $1 per litre.

Chambers said if the prices go lower "that'll be a relief," adding "every little bit that goes down helps [Lower prices] means I can actually afford to take my kids out and go places."

Allan Babcock also wants to see the prices go lower.

"They're high, they're high," he said.

Babcock says lower gas prices would mean "more money in the end for food, which we need," adding that "food [prices are] still high."

"[I] wish we could get the food prices down along with the fuel," he said.

"I think they're outrageous," said another resident, Jim Ofner.

According to Ofner, he would like to see prices at "about $1.25 if possible," but he said "it is better right now."

Even lower prices coming:De Haan

Meanwhile, De Haan says that as it gets closer to Christmas, prices could be 10 to 25 cents a litre lower than where they are today.

"Potentially we could be seeing our lowest gas prices later this year since 2021, and that's with the carbon tax that's going up on a yearly basis," De Haan said.

"So, it's really rather incredible when you think about it, that gas prices could fall to multi-year lows even with carbon taxes that have gone up every year since then."
