Windsor unemployment rate at 11% and tops in Canada

Windsor's unemployment rate was down slightly in May but remains the highest in Canada. It fell from 11.5 per cent in April to 11 per cent in May.

Windsor's unemployment rate was down slightly in May but remains the highest in Canada.

It fell from 11.5 per cent in April to 11 per cent in May.

Previously, Statistics Canada told CBC those temporarily laid off at Windsor Assembly Plant are considered unemployed and do affect the unemployment rate.

Those nearly 5,000 workers started heading back to work during the last week of May.

Montreal has Canada's second-highest jobless rate at 8.3 per cent.

Nationally, unemployment held steady at 6.8 per cent.

The economy gained 59,000 jobs.
