After a thorough investigation, which included combing through hours of video and two laptop computers found on the scene, police found "nothing unusual" and "no evidence of illegal drugs," said Seminole Police Chief Charlie Tiger.

"There was nothing to indicate foul play."

Broward County Medical Examiner Joshua Perper, who led Smith's autopsy, said the former Playboy Playmate died of "combined drug intoxication" withthe sedative chloral hydrate as the major factor.

During the investigation, Perper and his team discovered through the evidence at the scene and from interviews that Smith had been taking a host of medications, including anti-anxiety and anti-depression medication, growth hormone and vitamin B injections, and methadone, for pain.

She had also been prescribed Tamiflu and an antibiotic after complaining of having the flu, Perper said.

Smith, 39, arrived at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino on the Seminole native reserve in Hollywood, Fla., on Feb. 5 but was seldom seen because she was said to be ill.

On Feb. 8, she was rushed to hospital after being discovered unresponsive in her room. Smith was later pronounced dead at hospital.

Over the past six weeks, Perper said he and his team have conducted a "large number of tests" to try to pinpoint the cause of Smith's death after finding no evidence of disease during a detailed autopsy. He said he also consulted with six outside forensics experts.

A media storm has erupted sincethe eccentric Smithdied about six weeks ago.

Aside from the mystery surrounding her death, there were legal battles between her companion Howard K. Stern, a former boyfriend and Smith's mother involving custody of the former model's body and where she was to be buried.

Also, Stern, former boyfriend Larry Birkhead and another man have all claimed to be the father of Smith's baby, Dannielynn.

Aformer exotic dancer, Smith rose to fame as a Playboy Playmate and sometime fashion model in the mid-1990s. She was also known for her May-December marriage to 89-year-old oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall II, who died the year after they married.

For the past decade, Smith has been fighting Marshall's family for her share of his estimated $500 million US fortune an ongoing legal battle which could one day make her infant daughter very wealthy.

Just three days after Smith gave birth to herdaughter in the Bahamas last September, her 20-year-old son Daniel died mysteriously. A private pathologist concluded that he died from a lethal combination of methadone and two antidepressants. An official inquiry into his death is scheduled to begin in the Bahamas Tuesday.
