Glen Campbell's final album, Adios, set for spring release

Guitarist and singer Glen Campbell plans to say goodbye with a final album, titled Adios, recorded shortly after his Alzheimer's diagnosis in 2011.

Guitarist and singer Glen Campbell plans to say goodbye with a final album, titled Adios, recorded shortly after his Alzheimer'sdiagnosis in 2011.

After revealing he had the degenerative disease, Campbell performed in an ambitious Goodbye Tour, singing hits such as Galveston, Gentle on My Mind and Rhinestone Cowboy.

He then went immediately to the studio to record more of his classic songs, according to his wife, Kim Campbell. .

"Glen's abilities to play, sing and remember songs began to rapidly decline after his diagnosis in 2011," she said in a statement. "A feeling of urgency grew to get him into the studio one last time to capture what magic was left. It was now or never."

The album features classic country and pop songs, many of them never before recorded by Campbell. He laid down a track for the Bob Dylan song Don't Think Twice It's All Right, performedwith Willie Nelson on Funny How Time Slips Away and recordedfor the first time Everybody's Talking, a song he famously performed on the Sonny & Cher Show in 1973.

While he struggled with dementia, Campbell had the support of family and musical colleagues in this final recording, to be released June 9.

Campbell performed for 50 years, his first success as a sessionguitarist before he had breakout pop and country hits with By the Time I Get to Phoenix and Gentle on My Mind. He has sold 50 million albums and is a six-time Grammy Award winner.

Campbell, who turns 81 on April 22, is in the final stages of Alzheimer's disease and is currently in a nursing home in Nashville.
