U2, one of the biggest bands in the world, will release a new album next year.

The Irish band will release No Line On The Horizon, the band's 12th studio album, internationally on March 2 and in North America a day later, U2's label Interscope announced Thursday.

A new record from the veteran rock quartet was initially slated to debut in 2008, but band members revealed in September that they wanted to keep writing and recording more songs.

The upcoming release will be the band's first since 2004's How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb, which sold about nine million copies and won the Grammy Award for album of the year in 2006.

Once again, U2 members Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. teamed up with longtime collaborators Brian Eno and Canadian producer Daniel Lanois, as well as Steve Lillywhite, for the new album, which features songs recorded in Morocco, Dublin, New York and London.

Touring plans have not yet been announced.

Other prominent recording acts planning to release new albums in 2009 include rappers Jay-Z, Eminem and 50 Cent.
