Ol' Blue Eyes to grace U.S. stamp

Saying Frank Sinatra's work has left "an indelible impression on American culture," the U.S. Postmaster General announced a stamp in his honour on Wednesday.

"His recordings, concert performances and film work place him among America's top artists, and his legendary gift for transforming popular song into art is a rare feat that few have been able to replicate," said Postmaster General John Potter.

Sinatra, known for hits such as Come Fly With Me and My Way, matured from a teen idol in the 1940s to a mature crooner who stretched his career over the next four decades.

He won several Grammy Awards and an Oscar for his film role in From Here to Eternity as well as the Kennedy Center Honors in 1983. He died in May 1998.

The post office will release the image to be shown on the Sinatra stamp next Wednesday, on Sinatra's birthday.

It will be a stamp for first-class mail issued next year, but the price of the stamp is unknown, as the U.S. is currently reviewing postal rates.
