Police reunite at the Grammys

After more than 20 years of being at odds with one another, members of '80s rock band the Police reunited Sunday for a live performance at the Grammy Awards.

After more than 20 years of being at odds with one another, members of '80s rock band the Police reunited Sunday for alive performance at the Grammy Awards.

Singer Sting and his bandmates, Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers opened the Grammy ceremony at Staples Center in Los Angeles with the words, "Ladies andgentlemen,we are the Police and we're back!"

Theythenlaunched into Roxanne, playing a single song before leaving the stage.

Thefive-time Grammy winners are widely expected to announce a reunion tour at a news conference in Los Angeles on Monday.

The Police had a string of hits from the late 1970s to the early 1980s including Don't Stand So Close to Me, Every Breath You Take and Every Little Thing She Does is Magic.

After their breakup in 1984, the band performed together at their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003.

The Grammy festivities began Saturday with the presentation of Lifetime Achievement Awards to some legends of the music world.

Among those honoured were:

  • Folk singer Joan Baez.
  • Memphis groove-meisters Booker T. & The MGs.
  • Opera star Maria Callas.
  • Jazz innovator Ornette Coleman.
  • Classic rock band the Doors.
  • Jam bandThe Grateful Dead.
  • Western swing pioneer Bob Wills.
