Spider-Man: Homecoming promises a jaunty return to the webslinger's teenage world, with a debut trailer that centres on high school drama, learning to juggle a double identity and testing boundaries set by new mentor Tony Stark.

Robert Downey Jr.'s always irreverent Stark/Iron Man helps set the tone for this latest, action-packed reboot of the Spider-Man movie franchise that stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

Moviedom's originalBatman, MichaelKeaton, is suitably menacing here asthe high-flying villain Vulture.

This iteration also feels realistically diverse, surrounding young New Yorker Parkerby characters of different ethnicities including his best friend, crush, schoolmates and teachers. Students seen in the early footage are played by Laura Harrier, Jacob Batalon and Zendaya, with Orange is the New Black's Selenis Leyva popping up as a teacher.

"Peter Parker goes to high school in Queens, and Queens is one of if not the most diverse places in the world. So I just wanted it to reflect what that actually looks like," director Jon Watts told industry publication The Daily Beast earlier this year.

And if you think the trailer is too John Hughes-y, the (more superheroicallyostentatious) international version might be more up your alley.

Can this new Spider-Man, now tied into Marvel's wider cinematic universe, swing to new heights? We'll find out when it hits theatres July 7, 2017.
