Tickets sell out in minutes for Diana tribute concert

Just one day after it was announced, a concert to be held in memory of Diana has sold out its first batch of tickets.

Just one day after it was announced, a concert to be held in memory of Diana has sold out its first batch of tickets.

Announced by Diana's sons, princes William and Harry, the concert is scheduled for the rebuilt Wembley stadium in London on July 1, 2007 what would have been her 46th birthday.

"We wanted to have this big concert full of energy, full of the sort of fun and happiness which I know she would have wanted," William said.

Performers announced so far for the star-studded show include Elton John, Duran Duran, Joss Stone and the English National Ballet. Proceeds from the concert will go to charities that Diana supported.

The first release of about 22,500 tickets sold out in 20 minutes on Wednesday morning, according to a spokesperson for the princes. More tickets are likely to be made available at a later date.

The capacity of the stadium, which is currently under construction,is expected to be 60,000.

Some tickets, which were priced at 45 (about $102), quickly turned up on online auction site eBay for more than five times the face value. However, site operators later pledged to remove the re-sale entries out of respect for the memory of the late Princess of Wales.

The princes also announced Tuesday that a church memorial service for Diana will also take place on Aug. 31, the 10th anniversary of her death.
