Tony Bennett to sing at Toronto Jazz Festival

Tony Bennett will give a one-night-only performance and Branford Marsalis will play with the Dave Holland Quintet as part of the Toronto Jazz Festival.

Tony Bennett will give a one-night-only performance, and Branford Marsalis will play with the Dave Holland Quintet as part of the Toronto Jazz Festival.

A full schedule for the festival, to run June 26 to July 5, was released on Monday.

Bennett, the Italian-American crooner who topped charts in the 1960s with I Left My Heart in San Francisco and The Best is Yet to Come, continues to tour at age 82. He has said he will never retire.

He'll be at the Canon Theatre on Sunday, July 5.

Sax player Marsalis, part of the New Orleans-based jazz family that includesfather Ellis and brother Wynton, performs with British jazz bassist Dave Holland and his quintet.

Other big names scheduled for the festival:

  • Tenor sax player Sonny Rollins.
  • The Gary Burton Quartet.
  • Kool & The Gang.
  • Britain's Jamie Cullum.
  • Japanese alto-sax player Sadao Watanabe.

Featured voices include Sharon Jones, Susan Tedeschi and Madeleine Peyroux.

There will also be performances by Canada's Jim Galloway and the Canadian Jazz Quartet, Bruce Cassidy and Dave Occhipinti.
