Toronto Symphony says box office grew in 2007-8

The Toronto Symphony Orchestra saw a boost in both single ticket sales and subscriptions in the 2007-8 season with house capacity averaging 88 per cent.

Some of the most popular series, and the New Music Festival, were sell-outs, the TSO announced Thursday.

Box office revenue was $9.2 million, increasing for the sixth year running, the TSO said in a statement.

More than 238,000 people bought tickets, an increase of 10,000. Subscriptions rose 10 per cent to 27,500 subscribers.

In 2007-8, the orchestra toured to Sarnia, Detroit, Ottawa and North Bay and reached an additional 110,000 students through special performances.

The TSO also announced release of the second disc on its TSO Live label.

The recording of Anton Bruckner's 4th Symphony was made in November 2007.

Recordings of the TSO playing Mahler andShostakovich are planned over the next several months.
