Transformers star LaBeouf escapes charges in summer accident

Los Angeles authorities won't charge Shia LaBeouf with drunk driving relating to a car accident this summer, but the young Hollywood star could still have his driver's licence suspended.

Los Angeles authorities won't charge Shia LaBeouf with drunk driving relating to a car accident this summer, but the young Hollywood star could still have his driver's licence suspended.

"We are not filing charges due to insufficient evidence against actor Shia LaBeouf," Jane Robison, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office, said on Thursday.

But pending a hearing on Friday with the Department of Motor Vehicles, the 22-year old Transformers star could have his licence suspended for up to nine months, according to Los Angeles Sheriff's Department spokesman Steve Whitmore.

On July 27, LaBeouf was involved in an early morning accident involving several vehicles. Police arrested the actor who refused to submit to a breathalyzer test on suspicion of drunk driving. He was also hospitalized for several days with a severe injury to his hand that ultimately required surgery.

A day later, investigators said LaBeouf was not at fault because one of the other drivers involved had run a red light and caused the accident.

LaBeouf, who had been filming a sequel to Transformers at the time of the accident, also starred in this summer's Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Other credits include Disturbia, I, Robot, Holes, the TV series Even Stevens and the new film Eagle Eye.
