Who's Roger Daltrey starts solo tour in Vancouver

Who frontman Roger Daltrey will begin his first solo tour of North America since 1985 with a show in Vancouver this fall.

Who frontman Roger Daltrey will begin his first solo tour of North America since 1985 with a show in Vancouver this fall.

He'll also stop at Casino Rama, north of Toronto, on the 30-date tour, he announced Tuesday on his website.

Daltrey said plans for the Who to tour together are still up in the air. The band lasttoured North America in 2008.

The singer, 65, is calling his tour Use It Or Lose It, in a reference to his voice, which he said he needs to "keep in trim."

Daltrey will play Who favourites and material from his nine solo albums, as well as covers of other songs.

"I feel so passionate about [Who guitarist/songwriter Pete] Townshend's music, what he wrote and his standing in the big scheme of things," Daltrey told Billboard.

He said Townshend is still writing songs, but he had no timetable for when the British group might tour together or release new material.

"I love playing Townshend's music old, new, whatever," he said.

Townshend's younger brother Simon Townshend, a touring guitarist with the Who, will accompany Daltrey, in the tour, which begins Oct. 10 at Vancouver's Commodore Ballroom.

He'll hit Casino Rama on Nov. 5. TheU.S. dates are scheduled for smaller clubs and theatres, rather than the arenas the Who would usually play.
