Winehouse pleads not guilty to assaulting fan

Amy Winehouse on Tuesday issued a not-guilty plea in a London courtroom, in connection with the assault of a fan at a charity event last fall.

Amy Winehouse on Tuesday issued a not-guilty plea in a courtroom in London, England, in connection with the assault of a fan at a charity event last fall.

Winehouse, who was accompanied by her father, Mitch, posed for photographers outside the City of Westminister Magistrates' Court before attending a brief hearing.

The 25-year-old singer was charged with common assault in early March over an incident Sept. 26, 2008.

Authorities allege Winehouse struck Sherene Flash, who asked to take a photo of her, following the End of Summer Ball, a fundraising concert in London.

This latest run-in with the law is believed to have scuttled the soul singer's plans to perform at California's Coachella festival next month. Her spokesman blamed "current legal issues" for her missing the festival.

The Back to Black singer a multiple Grammy Award winner and chart topper who has also made headlines for her troubled personal life was released on unconditional bail and ordered to stand trial in July.
