Wingin' It wins $50K children's TV prize

Wingin It, a comedy about a guardian angel tasked with turning unlucky teen named Carl Montclaire into the most popular kid at his high school, has won the $50,000 Shaw Rocket Prize.

A jury of young viewers from across Canadachose the show as their favourite from among five finalists.

"I like it because it is very intriguing, and I find it hilarious," said jury member Jonathan, 11.

"I am a big fan of Dylan Everett, the boy who plays Carl in Wingin' It. In every season of this show, they always bring something new, fresh, funny and unique from all other shows. Big thumbs up to this amazing show!"

Everett plays an ordinary teenage boy trying to survive high school, while Demetrius Joyette plays angel-in-training Porter Jackson, who is trying to earn his wings by boosting Carl's popularity.

The show, created by Temple Street Productions in Toronto, is airing its second season on Family Channel and has been approved for a third season.

An international jury of industry professionals chose five finalists for the young viewers to judge. The others were:

• Dirtgirlworld.
• My Babysitter's a Vampire - The Movie.
• Survive This.
• Wibbly Pig.

The prize, awarded by the Shaw Rocket Fund, celebrates Canadian programs aimed at viewers aged 6-12.
