TIFF 2016: See the stars who went fashion forward

AngelaSarafyanglided onto the TIFF red carpet.

The Armenian actress appears in The Promise alove story starring Christian Bale, set during the Armenian genocide andstole the show in a diaphanousgownon the red carpet before thefilm's premiere on the opening weekend of the Toronto International Film Festival.

Zhang Ziyi, who wasa TIFF judge this year, was on the red carpet with Magnificent Seven actress Haley Bennett in the festival's opening week.

Fittingly, the I Am Not Madame Bovary star donned a daring gown for the North Americanpremiere of the film, which hasthe theme of bravery,and taking on the Chinese government, at its core.

On the same night, at a different party, Free Fire actressBrie Larson wasspottedin a similarly daringensemble with co-star Armie Hammer.

Things got avant-gardeat the after-parties.

Actresses Reese Witherspoon, Lupita Nyong'o and Michelle Williams wentfashion forward at a private Vanity Fair and Tiffany & Co. dinner toasting Nyong'o, who was in Toronto for the film Queen of Katwe,at the Shangri-La Hotel.

Actress Jennifer Connelly attended a different party in a dress similar-but-different to the one worn by Williams.
