Maclean's leaders election debate set for Aug. 6

The first of the 2015 federal debates will air Aug. 6 with the participation of all four major national party leaders, Maclean's has announced.

Maclean's political editor Paul Wells will moderate the debate, which will cover the economy, energy and the environment, foreign policy, security and the health of Canada's democratic institutions.

The announcement from Maclean's and Rogers Media comes in the wake of the Conservative Party's decision to reject the proposal of the broadcast consortium that traditionally airs the debates in favour of offers from individual networks.

While the Liberal party initially expressed disappointment with the Conservatives' decision, Maclean's confirmed that leader Justin Trudeau will be participating in the debate. The Conservatives have said they want to see five debates in total and have accepted invitations to four so far.

Conservative Party Leader Stephen Harper, NDP Leader Tom Mulcair and Green Party Leader Elizabeth May will also participate, Maclean's confirmed in a release Monday.

The debate will air between 8 and 10 p.m. ET on Rogers TV networks, including City, OMNI 1 and OMNI 2, and CPAC and will be live streamed online on Rogers radio and television station websites, Macleans.ca, Facebook and YouTube.

The debate will be translated into Italian, Mandarin, Cantoneseand Punjabi on OMNI and will air in English and French on CPAC, Rogers said.
