SirDavidAttenboroughis, by and large, the mosticonic narratorof nature documentarieson Earth today.

Voted Britain's "finestnational treasures" in 2011, the now 89-year-old broadcasterhas more than 60 years of experience in his field, dozens of prestigious awards, and a special place in the hearts of nature lovers spanning multiple demographicsworldwide.

Who better to succeed him as the host of BBC's Planet Earththanan American gangster rapper who literally has an animal in his name?

Snoop Dogg(or Lion, as it once briefly was) has been inadvertently nominated to narrate an entire season of the BBC Natural Historydocumentaryseries, despite no plans being announced for new episodes of the TV program since it firstaired in 2006.

"Get Snoop Dogg to Narrate Whole Season of Planet Earth"reads the title ofa change.org petitionaddressedtoAnimal Planet,Discovery Communications, the BBC and Snoop, whose given nameisCalvinBroadus, Jr.

"We the people have agreed we want SnoopDoggto narrate full episodes of Planet Earth!"

While relatively slow on the uptake, thecampaign which was startedon Jan. 18 byKellyOotonof Lincoln, Neb. exploded this weekend thanks in part to some love from the Big Boss Dogg himself.

Snoop shared a link to the petition with his 8.4 millionInstagram and 13.2 millionTwitter followers on Thursday when it still had just under 8,000 signatures.

By Monday, it had been signed by more than50,000 people a benchmark that would have warranted an official response from The White House had it been created on the U.S. government's website before the signature threshold was raised in 2013.

Strange as theidea of Snoop narrating Planet Earthmay seem tosome, it didn't come out of left field.

The Long Beach, Calif. native has already been provinghe's got what it takes to host nature documentaries by doing just that in a recurring Jimmy KimmelLive sketch called "Plizzanet Earth."

"Snoop Dogg is a lover of animals and nature and from time to time, he shares his wisdom with us in what many call the greatest nature and wildlife show of all-time,"reads the description of onePlizzanet Earth videoon Kimmel's YouTube channel. "It's time now to learn about Tree Frogs in this new edition of #PlizzanetEarth."

Plizzanet Earth was ahit when itmade its debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live in 2014, and the segmentscontinue to spread fast and far online each time a new one is released.

This may explain why Ooton's petition is doing so well.

It is unclear, however, if those signing itwant Snoop to dub over Attenborough's voice onanentire, previously-airedseason ofPlanet Earth, or if they want him to host a new season altogether.

New episodes of Planet Earth are no longer being created, but the producers behind it are working on a new series for Netflix called Our Planetset to air in 2019.

Snoop hasn't publiclyexpressed a desireto roll"nature documentary host" into his alreadybusycareer as a rapper, producer and entrepreneur, but he's been known to take on less-conventional work projects in the past.

The Internet wouldn't mind ifAttenborough dropped a preemptive diss track over the beat of Gin & Juice either way, though. Just in case.
