Ted Cruz's wife reveals he bought 100 soup cans after their honeymoon

How do you celebrate your nuptials? By going to the store and buying 100 cans of Campbell's Chunky soup, of course.

At least, that's what Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz did after hishoneymoonaccording to his wife, Heidi. She made therevelation Wednesday during a Republican presidential town hall event on CNN.

"When I married Ted, we got back from our honeymoon, and he went off to the store and came home by himself. And I was completely shocked to see that he arrived back at our apartment with literally 100 cans of Campbell's Chunky soup," she said.

"This was shocking to me, so we had a tough conversation about it and I said, "You don't buy 100 of anything, much less canned soup we can't do this.'"

Ted Cruz interrupted his wife's story to point outthat they all weren't the same flavour of soup.

"Different kinds. Some chicken, some beef, you know."

But Heidi explained she couldn't handle the buy. She saidshe slippedout of the house before Ted woke up in order toreturnall of the soup cans he bought. Shewas scolded by her mother for doing so.

"So when Ted opened the pantry, I had to quickly tell him that I would go back and buy those cans again."

They both admitted to host Anderson Cooper that they are"terrible cooks."

The soup can story quickly spread on social media, where Cruz was largely ridiculed for his bulk purchase.

It eliciteda range of reactions from intrigue to fear.

Others chose to paint a vivid pictureof Cruz actually eating the soup.
