Suspect in fatal shooting on Las Vegas Strip surrenders after standoff

The suspect in a fatal shooting on the Las Vegas Strip on Saturday surrendered to police after barricading himself inside a bus.

People returnedto the heart of the Las Vegas Strip Saturday evening after agunman shot people on a public bus and then barricaded himselfinside, shutting down the busy tourism corridor for hours.

The standoff began around 11 a.m. local timeafter a shooting thatkilled one person and injured another. It happened on adouble-decker bus stopped on Las Vegas Boulevard near the Cosmopolitan and Bellagiohotels.

"He was on the bus. He was shooting people on the bus. He wasjust contained to that location. He never exited the bus," saidClark County Assistant Sheriff Tom Roberts.

Two people were taken to hospital.

University Medical Centre spokeswomanDanitaCohen saidone died and the other was in fair condition.Police said that personsuffered minor injuries.

Crisis negotiators and SWAT officers were called to the scene, according to Las Vegas Police Department Officer Larry Hadfield.

Hadfieldsaid the suspect, who they did not identify,was taken into custody around 3:30 p.m. without incident.

Police said they believe the man on the bus is the onlysuspect and that they have ruled out terrorism or any relationship to an earlier robbery nearby that shut down a part of the Bellagiohotel-casino.
