U.S. movie theatre chain to host election night broadcast

AMC Theatres has partnered withCNN to broadcast the Nov. 8 presidential electionon the big screen at 50 theatres in 25 cities across the U.S.

Each location will be designated as either"red"or "blue" (Republican or Democratic) and attendees may choose their theatre based on party preference.

The event is free for members of AMC Stubs, a tiered perks program from the exhibitor chain, and two guests, AMC Theatres said Monday in a press release.

The move was bolstered by the high media ratings the election campaign continues to enjoy, said AMC executive vice-president Elizabeth Frank.

"The 2016 presidential race has generated record-setting viewing on television and online, and we're excited to have CNN bring the culmination of the race to the big screen," she said in a press release, adding the separation of parties seemed natural.

"On election night, as Americans gather in their communities to watch the conclusion of this historic election, we recognize that Democrats want to cheer with fellow Democrats, and Republicans cheer with fellow Republicans."

The broadcast will also include major national, state and local elections andwill begin at 7 p.m. ET.
