Public sector salaries: Should they be published?

Taking a lead from the federal government's recent move to restrain the public sector, Ontario is planning to introduce legislation Wednesday that would require chief executive officers in the province's public sector to post their expenses online and would ban public institutions from spending taxpayers' money on lobbyists, according to a Globe and Mail report .

This legislation comes in reaction to a recent spending controversy in which provincial New Democratic Leader Andrea Horwath revealed that at least 14 hospitals across Ontario hired consultants.

Currently, rules that govern the public sector dictate that all employees who earn more than $100, 000 have their salary disclosed to the public.

How do you feel about the public disclosure of highly paid public sector employees' salaries?
