We Made Up 7 Words That Perfectly Describe Life as a Parent of Young Kids

Which of these rings most true for you? 

At bedtime:

Bedatorial: a long, rambling speech from a young child right before bed, detailing all the reasons why they should not or cannot go to bed.


On road trips:

Carmageddon: a massively epic meltdown during a long drive, esp. on the highway.

When they're pushing limits:

Charlatantrum: an episode of disingenuous crying by a young child who is aiming to get or do something they are not allowed.


After eating:

Floornado: the residual food and drink left around the chair of a small child after a meal or snack.

When you just want a night out:

Maybesitter: a child-minder who regularly bails and leaves you scrambling. Praybesitter:a child-minder who you pray will be available at the last minute.


When trying to take public transit, or be anywhere with other people: 

Stroller Derby: the act of manoeuvering a stroller through busy public spaces, i.e. crowded sidewalks or public transit during rush hour.

Jennifer Goodhue is a performer/writer in Toronto. As part of a stellar ensemble, she wrote and performed in five Second City MainStage revues. She co-starred in CTV’s Comedy Inc. for five seasons and has written for several television shows such as This Hour Has 22 Minutes, Stroumboulopoulos Tonight and YTV’s That’s So Weird.
