Whatever you’re doing on Canada Day, your kids will feel extra patriotic with a pair of these festive Canada Day flip flops on their feet!  You can whip up a pair in minutes with a few dollar store supplies.

You Will Need:

  • glue gun (use a low heat glue gun if a very young child is helping)
  • red ribbon
  • white ribbon
  • red artificial flowers
  • white artificial flowers
  • flip flops (use your own or pick some up at the dollar store like we did)

White flip flops, red and white ribbon and red and white flowers.

Instructions:

1. We began by cutting our ribbon into four-inch lengths.

We held one piece of red ribbon and one piece of white ribbon together and tied them in a double knot around the strap of the flip flop. Leave a half-inch of space between the knotted ribbons so you’ll have room to add your flowers.

Adjust your ribbons and trim them if necessary so the ribbons look perky and fluffy.

2. Now it’s time to add the flowers. If your flowers come in a bunch (on long stems) like ours did, snip off a flower, leaving a bit of stem on the back.

Add a dab of hot glue to the back of the flower and press the flower to the strap of the flip flop, in between the ribbons.

Take care here, as you will feel the heat of the glue through the flower. A small bowl of ice water at your craft station is always a good idea when using a glue gun. If anyone gets glue on a finger, they can quickly dip into the ice water and avert any burns.

Continue adding your flowers until your flip flop straps are completely decorated.

Just look at these festive, little feet! They’re all set to celebrate!
