Christmas Craft: Fabric Scrap Santa Ornament

If you’ve followed us at Christmastime in the past, you’ll know we’ve made some pretty adorable Santa crafts in my daycare over the years.

These little fabric scrap Santa ornaments might be the cutest yet.

They’re fun and easy to make, and they’re a great way to use up small pieces of leftover cotton or T-shirt material from larger sewing projects.

If your kids are old enough to use a low-heat glue gun, they’ll be able to manage this craft with very little assistance. Younger children will need some help as a glue gun works better than regular white glue for this project.

Put on some holiday tunes, pour some hot chocolate and enjoy this special Christmas crafting time together.

What You'll Need:

• thin cardboard (i.e. cereal box weight)
• low-heat glue gun
• scissors
• fabric
• white yarn
• white pompom
• cotton ball
• googly eyes
• small styrofoam ball, cut in half (for nose)
• paint (for nose)
• craft jewels (for cheeks)
• thread for hanging

Substitutions:

• If you don’t have a styrofoam ball for the nose, a pompom or button will work.
• If you don’t have craft jewels for the cheeks, you can use buttons, pompoms or craft foam.

How It's Made:

Paint the styrofoam nose and set it aside to dry. Next, cut a triangle out of the cardboard and a larger triangle out of the fabric.

Lay the cardboard triangle on the wrong side of the fabric triangle. Glue the excess fabric to the back of the cardboard.

Glue the pompom to the top of the hat. Stretch the cotton ball out and fluff it, and glue it along the bottom of the hat.

Wind the yarn around your hand until you have enough for Santa’s beard.

Slide it off and cut it to the length you want it. Squeeze a line of hot glue along the bottom-back of the hat and carefully press the yarn into it.

Flip your ornament over, and if you need to, trim Santa’s beard to even it up.

Arrange Santa’s eyes, nose and cheeks on the surface of his beard, and glue them in place. Finally, glue a loop of string to the top of your ornament for hanging.
