Drawing With Cookie Cutters

I love setting up simple invitations for my kids to play.

These types of open-ended activities are great for expressing creativity and encouraging imaginative play.

I set up this simple no-prep boredom busting drawing invitation with cookie cutters. My kids have spent hours playing with cookie cutters, either on their own or with other materials like play dough, so I knew they would love this particular drawing activity.

You Will Need: 

• cookie cutters
• blank pieces of paper
• pencil crayons

Instructions:

Simply set out the materials and let the kids create!

Some of my kids' favourite activities the incredibly simple ones—like this drawing invitation.

While they draw, they are working on fine motor skills, practicing tracing, working on storytelling skills and exploring their creativity.

My five year-old loved narrating while he drew, including telling a story about a man with an orange shirt and pink pants who was playing football with a fish. It was quite entertaining!

Meanwhile, my three year-old preferred to tell stories about the cookie cutters without necessarily drawing anything. It was almost as if my three year-old was acting out a play with the cookie cutters as the actors. It was really cute!

Kids are so creative, they'll find all kinds of ways to play and draw with cookie cutters!
