Halloween Craft: Spooky Spider Webs

My kids have always been very artsy and crafty. The craft store is one of their favourite places and our home is always on the brink of becoming overrun with their latest drawings, paintings, and creations. I am not a naturally crafty person, so over the years, they have taught me to step outside the box and embrace my crafty side — whatever bits there are to embrace!

My kids are the ones who taught me how to make these spooky spider webs. My eldest learned to make them in school a few years back and when October rolls around, we always add a few new webs to our collection. Each year, when the Halloween decoration bin comes up from the basement, it’s fun to see how their spider web making skills have progressed over the years!

These webs are fun to hang on the windows and decorate the house with during the Halloween season. It’s a fun and quick craft, aside from the drying time, it won’t take longer 10-15 minutes to make, maybe quicker as your kids get the hang of it.

Here's what you'll need:

• popsicle sticks (3 per spider web)
• white yarn
• glue
• plastic spiders (Look for these in a craft store during the fall. You can also buy plastic spider rings which are easy to attach to the webs.)

First, add a bit of glue to the middle of two popsicle sticks.

Glue the sticks together to form a star shape. Let it sit to dry thoroughly.

Now, tie white yarn to the center of the sticks and tie a knot to secure.

Next, wrap the yarn around the sticks to make a star in the centre.

Then, begin wrapping the year around the sticks using an over/wrap around/over the next stick/wrap around pattern. Keep working your way around until only the tops of the popsicle sticks are left uncovered by yarn.

When done, tie the yarn into a knot behind the web to secure. Then, tie another piece of yarn to the end of one of the sticks to hang the web.

Attach the spiders to the web with a little glue. If using rings, use the ring portion to affix the spider to the web.
