Pine Cone Elf Ornaments

By Maureen MacMillan, Twig and Toadstool

Here's a sweet and simple craft to whip up with the littles—pine cone gnomes or elves for the tree!

You Will Need:

  • pine cones
  • wooden beads (about 1-1.5" in diameter)
  • red and green felt
  • red, green and black paint
  • paintbrushes
  • glue gun and glue sticks
  • embroidery thread and needle
  • glitter (optional but highly recommended)

Instructions:

1. Paint your pine cones all over with red or green paint. Every square inch gets painted!

2. While the pine cone is still wet, sprinkle with glitter. Be generous…you can never have too much sparkle!

3. Paint a little face onto your wooden bead.

4. Cut a triangle out of your felt. Make sure the base of the triangle is large enough to wrap around your wooden bead.

5. Fold the felt triangle in half and run a line of glue up one side. Hold it together for a second or two, then glue it onto your wooden bead "head".

6. Take the head and glue it onto your pine cone body.

Next, take some embroidery floss and your needle. Poke the needle through the tip of the hat and tie the floss into a loop.

Hang and enjoy!

Wishing you all the happiest of holidays. Here's to continued creativity in 2016!
