WITH CANADIAN ON DEATH ROW IN U.S. PRISON

Special report tonight on THE NATIONAL with full interview Tuesday on CONNECT WITH MARK KELLEY

CBC News's Mark Kelley has an exclusive interview with Ronald Smith, the only Canadian on Death Row in the United States. The Montana Board of Pardons and Parole will hold a last-ditch clemency hearing this week to determine whether Smith's execution will go ahead.

Smith, originally from Wetaskiwin, Alta., was sentenced to death in 1983 for the shotgun killing of two aboriginal men who offered him a ride while Smith was hitchhiking in Montana.

Mark Kelley visited Smith at Montana State Prison, and presents a special report tonight on THE NATIONAL (10 p.m./10:30 NT on CBC-TV; 9, 10 and 11 p.m. ET/PT on CBC News Network); the full interview airs tomorrow, Tuesday, May 1, on CONNECT WITH MARK KELLEY (8 p.m. ET on CBC News Network).
