Leafs' Kessel faces disciplinary hearing Tuesday

The NHL's department of player safety announced it would have a telephone hearing with Phil Kessel Tuesday to assess a slashing incident he was involved in during the third-period brawl in Toronto's 5-2 win.

The repercussionsof the melee between the Buffalo Sabres and Toronto Maple Leafs on Sunday night at Air Canada Centre are still being felt.

Hours after Leafs forward David Clarkson was suspended 10 gamesMonday, the NHL's department of player safetyannouncedit would have a telephone hearing with Phil KesselTuesday to assess a slashing incident he was involved in during the third-period brawl in Toronto's 5-2 win.

Sabres winger JohnScott went after Kessel, who turned and swung his stick on his opponent. At 10:01 of the third period, the Leafs sniper was given a match penalty.

For his actions, Scott was handed a fighting major, an instigating minor, to go along with a 10-minute and game misconduct.

The Leafs came out on top on the scoreboard with a 5-3 win.
