Maple Leafs sign Peter Holland, Frankie Corrado to 1-year deals

The Toronto Maple Leafs avoided arbitration with Peter Holland and Frankie Corrado, signing each to one-year contracts on Monday.

Coming off his most productive NHL season, one that saw him post a career-high 27 points in 65 games, Holland signed for $1.3 million US. The Caledon, Ont., native announced the news himself on Twitter, posting "Another year living my boyhood dream - Let's rock."

Details of Corrado's deal were not disclosed. The 22-year-old, from nearby Woodbridge, Ont., had a rough first season as a Leaf and was a frequent healthy scratch. Picked up off waivers from Vancouver, Corrado didn't play his first game with the Leafs until mid-December.

He finished with six points and positive puck possession numbers in 39 games.

Holland had an arbitration hearing scheduled for Monday with Corrado due up on Tuesday.

Neither player is assured of a roster spot or playing time next season for a Leafs squad that's due to get younger and deeper from seasons' past.

Twenty-four-old defenceman Martin Marincin is the only remaining restricted free agent unsigned by the Leafs, due for an arbitration hearing on Aug. 2.
