UPDATE: Chris Rock confirmed that he will, in fact, be hosting the 88th Academy Awards. The comedian shared the news with a simple tweet saying, "Look who's back. #Oscars."

PREVIOUSLY: Chris Rock is reportedly in talks to host the 88th Academy Awards , Variety reports.

The comedian hosted the Hollywood ceremony back in 2005 , so he's no stranger to the Oscars stage. He's also worked with the new Oscar co-producer Reginald Hudlin, who directed the pilot for Rock's show, "Everybody Hates Chris."

An official announcement regarding the info is expected to be released soon, notes Variety.

If the news is true, Rock will succeed Neil Patrick Harris. When the former "How I Met Your Mother" star hosted the ceremony in 2015, ratings fell 16 percent , resulting in the lowest viewership in six years. So, it makes sense that they'd want to switch it up.

And we're sure there's no hard feelings with NPH, who said he wasn't sure his soul could handle hosting for a second time .
