Former Sen. Claire McCaskill Notes 'Humiliating' Aspect Of This RNC

Former Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) on Wednesday explained why she believes the endorsement of former President Donald Trump by his onetime GOP primary rivals at the Republican National Convention is all the more excruciating for them this time around.

Its not unusual for vanquished primary candidates to rally around the nominee, what is unusual is how personal the criticism of Trump was during the 2024 Republican primary process, noted MSNBC s Willie Geist on Wednesdays broadcast of Morning Joe.

It feels so much more humiliating for the people who are doing this, whether its [Florida Gov. Ron] DeSantis or [former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki] Haley, just because you know the depth of their dislike for Donald Trump, agreed McCaskill, a political analyst for the network.

Haley and DeSantis both delivered speeches backing Trump at the Republican National Convention, which is taking place this week in Milwaukee.

But its the Trump party now, theres nothing Republican about it, she later added.

All the legs of the Ronald Reagan stool that spoke to Republicanism ... theyre gone, the former senator lamented. They are all gone, there is nothing left of the ideology of the Republican Party . It is now about a guy, one guy, and his ability to market and the power of his personality to speak to grievance.
