Nineteen-year-old tennis sensation Coco Gauff has won the U.S. Open, making her the youngest American champion of the competition since Serena Williams in 1999.

She beat out Belarusian tennis star Aryna Sabalenka, the 25-year-old winner of the Australian Open singles final earlier this year, at Saturdays final in New York, scoring 2-6, 6-3 and 6-2.

The South Florida phenom is the youngest American to win the U.S. Open since 17-year-old Williams did so in 1999. Gauff credits the tennis prodigy and her sister Venus Williams as her inspirations, once saying that theyre the reason why I wanted to pick up a tennis racquet .

This is the first time an American woman has won the U.S. Open in six years.
