There's a lot to look forward to in the second season of "Transparent," Amazon 's breakout hit series, but star Gaby Hoffmann distilled it all down to just one phrase during an interview with HuffPost Live: "a lot of shenanigans."

The show, which recently won five Emmy Awards for its moving depiction of a father's transition to living as a woman, expands its focus in the second season, which premieres Dec. 11 on Amazon Prime. Hoffmann said the new episodes will explore how a transgender person's new identity forces change throughout that person's family, an idea series creator Jill Soloway discussed with HuffPost Live last month.

"The first season ... was sort of just the beginnings of that, especially for my character," Hoffmann said. "I kind of think of her as waking up from a long slumber. So this season, everyone is well on their way to breaking out of this long-held, quite dysfunctional family dynamic, so we're all sort of spiraling out on our own to discover who we are now that we've found out our patriarch is actually our matriarch."
