Gordon Ramsay Says He's 'Lucky To Be Here' Following 'Really Bad' Bike Accident

Gordon Ramsay is emphasizing the importance of wearing a helmet while biking after revealing that he was involved in an accident last week in Connecticut .

I had a really bad accident, and it really shook me, and, honestly, Im lucky to be here, said the celebrity chef and Hells Kitchen star in a video shared on social media on Saturday.

Now, from those incredible trauma surgeons, doctors, nurses and the hospital that looked after me this week, they were amazing. But, honestly, youve got to wear a helmet.

I dont care how short the journey is, I dont care [about] the fact that these helmets cost money, but theyre crucial, he continued. Even with the kids, a short journey, theyve got to wear a helmet.

He then noted that hes been in pain and that its been a brutal week before pulling back his chefs coat to reveal a massive bruise on his torso.

Ramsay, who prefaced his important message by remarking on his love for cycling and triathlons , tied his call for bikers to wear helmets into Fathers Day weekend and asked dads to do their part as well.

In a post to his Instagram page , Ramsay also showed pictures before and after the accident, with the latter image revealing the damage to his helmet.

He wrote in the caption of his Instagram post that hes been doing ok and didnt break any bones or suffer any major injuries, adding that his bruise is looking like a purple potato.

Im thankful for all the doctors, nurses and staff at Lawerence + Memorial Hospital in New London who looked after me and checked me out, but most thankful for my helmet that saved my life, Ramsay wrote.
