Longtime Democratic strategist James Carville reportedly urged major Democratic donors to stop stumping up cash for candidates who back Joe Biden s 2024 run. Pressure continued to mount on the president following his disastrous debate performance against Donald Trump last week.

Carville reportedly told dozens of donors during an hour-long private conference call on Tuesday, a recording was shared with Semafor : 72% of people want something different. Why not give it to them? Theyre just asking for a different choice.

According to reports, Carville added: What I would say is, if we dont do something about this, Im going to put you on call block on my cell phone.

In another moment, the veteran strategist reportedly discussed how the earliest-ever presidential debate may actually benefit Democrats .

Maybe we look back on this thing and say, This is the best thing that ever happened to us, he said. If this would have happened to us on Oct. 5, wed be more than bruised, screwed and tattooed. Maybe this will set it into motion something different.

Carville, who was a lead strategist for Bill Clintons 1992 campaign, on Monday called on Democrats to deliver change and replace Biden as the Democratic presidential candidate.

If its too hard for the Democrats to deliver change, then theyre going to hurt themselves bad really bad, he said . Change is messy. But you have to listen to the vox populi. We want something new. I see staggering talent in the Democratic Party .

Carville last month expressed his concern and frustration that a Biden-Trump rematch would alienate younger voters.

They feel like two 80-year-old guys dont mean much to em, and I am really afraid that we are going to lose a generation of young people, he told WABC Radios John Catsimatidis. Thats my greatest fear for the United States, Cat, is that young people are disengaging.
