One of the first items I ever gave my husband was a T-shirt from Urban Outfitters emblazoned with the words "Pig Roast" and a picture of a fat, happy ham. This was 2002 and ironic tees and novelty sweaters were all the rage. Ask anyone if they remember the trend and I assure you they'll smile as they reminisce about having shirts that said "Ciao, Roma!" that they wished had been purchased in Italy in the '70s rather than at H&M on Broadway.

It's a good thing my husband kept his pig shirt because cheeky prints and animal motifs are back in style. In the past few years, we've seen tops with rottweilers from Givenchy , jungle cats from Kenzo , and most recently, Madewell and J.Crew are both selling sweaters that harken back to the days of yore. Whether they're depicting sweet owls or bespectacled Parisian ladies, the tongue-in-cheek sweaters have us smiling. Though the knitwear may remind you of youthful styles, paired with leather pants or a pencil skirt this trend is anything but tween. Here, 10 novelty knits to cheer you up this winter.
