Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan (R) signed legislation last week that will expand access to contraception for residents across the state.

The Contraception Equity Act requires insurance companies to cover over-the-counter emergency contraceptives, and women won't need pre-authorization from their insurers to get an IUD. The new legislation will also forbid out-of-pocket costs for vasectomies.

The comprehensive reform is slated to go into effect in 2018.
