President Donald Trumps national security adviser, Michael Flynn , resigned Monday evening amid controversy over discussions he had about U.S. sanctions against Russia with that countrys ambassador.

Flynns discussions with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak took place before Trumps inauguration.

Flynn said he was honored to serve in Trumps administration .
