In just 24 hours, a fund set up for the victims most affected by the Boston Marathon blasts has raised more than $7 million.

One Fund Boston , launched by Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick and Boston Mayor Menino, has seen an outpouring of support from philanthropists, businesses and individuals eager to help the more than 180 people wounded in the explosions on Monday and the families of three who were killed, according to the organizations website.

The fund has already raised more than $7 million, which includes a $1 million commitment from John Hancock Financial Services , which was the lead sponsor of the marathon, according to a press release.

I am humbled by the outpouring of support by the business community and individuals who are united in their desire to help, Governor Patrick said in a statement. At moments like this, we are one state, one city, and one people.

The fund will be headed by Kenneth Feinberg , an attorney who managed the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund and administered the funds for the victims of the mass shootings in Aurora. Colo., and at Virginia Tech.

I am grateful to Ken Feinberg for stepping in to administer The One Fund, Governor Patrick said in a statement. Ken has a long history of public service, especially in times of tragedy. He is a child of Massachusetts, and I know he will bring the personal connection of a native son to making sure that the victims of these senseless acts are supported as our Commonwealth begins to heal.
