Rick Santorum is hinting at the possibility of running for president in 2016.

The former Pennsylvania senator, who finished second after eventual GOP nominee Mitt Romney in the 2012 Republican primary race, said he could make a decision about another White House bid in June 2015.

"Four years ago, we ended up announcing in June of 2011," Santorum told Politico in a story published Monday. "If past is a portent of the future, that's probably a ball park."

Santorum said he'd likely make his decision after talking with Republican donors and conservative activists about his chances of securing the GOP nomination.

"We're talking to donors, we're looking at talking to people in the early primary states and trying to get a gauge of support and doing the grunt work, if you will, of seeing whether there's a path for for us," Santorum told Politico.

In early November, Santorum visited Iowa to speak at an event for then-GOP Senate candidate Joni Ernst at the same time former President Bill Clinton was speaking at an event for her rival, Democrat Bruce Braley. After telling volunteers that a victory in Iowa will "set a tone for 2016," Santorum mentioned potentially running against former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

"Santorum versus Clinton," the Republican said at the time, according to the WCF Courier . Sounds very interesting to me.

Santorum has already made headlines by feuding with another presidential hopeful: Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.). He has repeatedly called Paul an "isolationist" and claims that the senator doesnt understand the threat of radical Islam.
