Rosario Dawson is willing to stand up for democracy, even if that means getting arrested.

The "Daredevil" actress was one of the hundreds of protesters arrested for crowding and obstruction at the "Democracy Spring" rally in Washington, D.C. on Friday, USA Today reports. Participants were protesting on Capitol Hill against the corruption of "big money in our politics" and calling for a "free and fair election in which every American has an equal voice," according to the movement's website .

Dawson, 36, was arrested after she crossed police lines with a group of people staging a sit-in. She was detained briefly and fined $50 ; she is not facing a court appearance or jail time.

The online news show "The Young Turks" spoke to Dawson after her arrest . The actress also posted a link to the "TYT" Facebook page on her personal page.

"I wanted for me personally to be in solidarity with the other folks who put themselves on the line and just to bring attention to this," she said in the interview. "We're putting ourselves on the line for what a lot of people across America and across the planet really want to be able to see happen in America, which is one person one vote."

She also said that the "police were really great with us" when they issued the arrests.

"I have to say that is not the case for so many people: Dreamers, Black Lives Matter activists, so many people are not seeing this kind of courageousness," she said. "I hope that officers across the nation can take heed of that and recognize that the peaceful protests that are going around the nation should also be treated in the same way as we are being treated today."

Dawson, a vocal Bernie Sanders supporter , documented her time at the protest with photos on Instagram.
