London newspapers were abuzz on Thursday after Alexander McQueen designer Sarah Burton was supposedly spotted rushing into The Goring Hotel, where Kate Middleton is spending her last night as a single lady .

Rumors swirled in March that Burton had been tapped to design Kate's wedding dress, but Burton quickly squelched speculation, telling Vogue UK at the time , "I am not doing it." However, onlookers insisted that the woman hidden under the fur hood was indeed Burton, with one telling the Daily Mail , "She ducked right down and ran in as quick as you like. The whole thing was in under half a second. It was very odd. If that's not Sarah Burton, I'll eat my hat."

The Telegraph's Hilary Alexander came up with more evidence:

The distinctive studded leather belt doubled through the belt loops of her jeans was identical to the one favoured by Sarah Burton, creative director of Alexander McQueen, as were the ballet pumps.

Burton, the Manchester-born designer, who has imbued the radical British brand with a robust femininity and breathtaking feeling of historical romance, is not often photographed. But when she is, the metal belt, buckled, and then individually slotted backwards, and the flat pumps, are present.

We compared the photograph of maybe-Burton to actual Burton after the McQueen runway show last October. It's certainly possible that it's her, but we're not sold on one key point -- take a look at the wedding rings.
