The Detroit native was 19 years old at the time and had long since traded his studious childhood and dreams of being a doctor for a dangerous, drug-dealing life on the streets. Senghor had become a powerful presence in the neighborhood by then -- he had been dealing crack since 14 and later survived being shot three times by an ex's new boyfriend.
